Dominica embarks on initiative to develop migration responses to support agriculture
The National Agricultural Labour Task Force was set up under the leadership of the Permanent Secretary of Agriculture in the Government of Dominica, to coordinate the implementation of policy mechanisms to respond to the national demand for farm labour and to monitor, evaluate and report to the Cabinet Sub-Committee on Farm Labour on the impact and effectiveness of approved policy actions.
These policies could include mechanisms to utilize the potential of migration to fill gaps in this sector, to support the government’s ambitions targets.
The Task Force comprises representatives from the public sector, non-governmental organizations, and international institutions. The next step is for the Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries, Blue and Green Economy to submit the proposed policy to the Cabinet of Ministers in the Government of Dominica for approval.
Funds have been provided by the IOM Development Fund to support the work of the group under a provision that avails resources annually to Member States for approved capacity building initiatives.
