IOM hosts Successful Workshop on Human Mobility & Climate Change in the OECS

Roseau– On 21-22 January 2021, the International Organization for Migration (IOM) and the IOM Global Migration Data Analysis Centre (GMDAC) successfully held a two-day workshop on Climate Change and Human Mobility Data, in Dominica. The consultation was the first of a series of six national workshops that will be held across the Organisation of Eastern Caribbean States (OECS) as part of a wider project: “Regional Dialogue to Address Human Mobility and Climate Change Adaptation in the Eastern Caribbean”.   



IOM deploys humanitarian assistance and monitoring for caravan migrants

Chiquimula, Guatemala.- The International Organization for Migration (IOM) deployed two teams to provide humanitarian assistance and monitor the situation of the approximately 7,500 migrants who decided to migrate in caravan mode from Honduras to Mexico and the United States.

EU, IOM, UNHCR to Support Peaceful Integration of Refugees and Migrants across Latin American, Caribbean Communities Affected by Covid-19

The European Union (EU), the International Organization for Migration (IOM), and UNHCR, the UN Refugee Agency, are joining forces to promote integration and peaceful coexistence among refugees, migrants and vulnerable host communities in a new initiative being launched in 11 countries throughout Central, South America and the Caribbean.

The joint initiative will assist communities most impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic by providing greater access to social protection services and support to lessen the pandemic's socioeconomic impact and enhance efforts for long-term recovery.

Joint UNHCR – IOM Statement

Panama - The International Organization for Migration (IOM) and UNHCR, the UN Refugee Agency, are deeply distressed by the death or disappearance at sea of up to 25 refugees and migrants from Venezuela, including children, after their boat capsized en route to Trinidad and Tobago. According to reports, between 14 and 21 bodies were found over the weekend floating in waters near the Venezuelan coastal town of Guiria. Search and rescue efforts continue as there may be others still missing at sea.

New York – The International Organization for Migration (IOM) and the United Nations Alliance of Civilizations (UNAOC) announced the winners of their PLURAL+ Youth Video Festival. The awards ceremony, an annual event for the joint initiative, for the first time took place virtually. 

The 2020 winning videos were chosen from among hundreds of submissions from over 70 countries. Winners were selected for their coverage of migration, diversity, social inclusion, and xenophobia.
