High Level Parliamentary Dialogue on Migration in Latin America and the Caribbean: "Realities and Commitments towards Global Compact”
IOM and the Latin American Parliament (Parlatino) are holding a High Level Parliamentary Dialogue on Migration in Latin America and the Caribbean, discussing “Realities and Commitments towards Global Compact”. This dialogue will take place on June 9-10, 2017, during the Parlatino XXXIII General Assembly. The Global Compact for Migration is framed consistent with target 10.7 of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development in which member States committed to cooperate internationally to facilitate safe, orderly and regular migration
About 200 parliamentarians and specialists on migration are attending to this event, including Nobel Laureate 2014, Kailash Satyarthi, who will be a guest speaker during the inauguration. The regional dialogue on migration will bring together six panels discussing topics such as: human rights of migrants, the impacts of regular and irregular migration, international cooperation, global governance of migration in all its dimensions, smuggling of migrants and trafficking in persons.
IOM congratulates the distinguished members of Parlatino for dedicating its XXXIII General Assembly to discuss the current status and development of the Global Compact for Migration.
