Guatemala National Consultation towards the Global Compact for Safe, Orderly and Regular Migration (GCM)
Guatemala National Consultation regarding the Global Compact for Safe, Orderly, and Regular Migration
October 9-10, 2017 - Guatemala City
The Government of Guatemala, fully conscious of the importance to the country of the Global Compact for Safe, Orderly, and Regular Migration (GCM), decided to implement an inter-agency process to establish a national position towards the phase I of the preparatory process for the GCM. To this end, the Government of Guatemala requested IOM cooperation to develop a national consultation. In compliance with that request, IOM hosted an event to establish general guidelines and a training course, which took place on 9-10 October 2017. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs led and convened a meeting with the governmental institutions involved in migration issues. The objectives of the meeting were to provide all institutions with relevant information about the GCM and establish the general guidelines to formulate a national position on each of the issues addressed by the GCM. IOM was in charge of developing the methodology and chairing the consultation.
