Las agencias especializadas del Sistema de Naciones Unidas cuentan con información valiosa sobre sus diversos temas de expertise, los cuales a menudo concurren con la migración. Su información es particularmente relevante pues responde a metodologías de alta calidad y trabajan con muestras de poblaciones variadas y en ocasiones con un número considerable de personas. La Biblioteca Virtual reúne los repositorios de las agencias de la ONU para incentivar la búsqueda ampliada de investigaciones que transversalicen la migración con otros temas relacionados con el desarrollo sostenible.

The IOM’s Regional Programme to Strengthen Capacities to Protect and Assist Vulnerable Migrants in Mesoamerica has undertaken a series of efforts to improve assistance to and protection of the rights of minors and women migrating in vulnerable conditions, victims of trafficking and sexual violence, refugees and asylum-seekers, extra continental migrants, and indigenous and LGBTI migrant populations, among others. Collecting the stories of migrant youth throughout the region is part of IOM’s mission to increase the visibility of this human calamity and to sensitize and invite reflection on the harsh reality facing these populations.

Guaranteeing respect and protection for the human rights of migrants  has been a constant concern for Member Countries of the Regional Conference on Migration (RCM), as evidenced through multiple conclusions and decisions taken in the framework of RCM throughout the years. Serving as a platform for coordination and exchange of best practices among countries, and with the financial and technical assistance of the International Organization for Migration (IOM), the RCM undertook a consultation process with government officials on how best to address the protection needs of these vulnerable individuals thus promoting a more comprehensive, coordinated, effective and systematic response.

Bajo este contexto, este documento pretende arrojar luz sobre los conceptos, observación, datos y desafíos en relación con la migración y el medio ambiente en los países del ACP, presentar las cifras más relevantes de los países del ACP, resaltar los efectos del nexo migración-medio ambiente en el desarrollo humano y proporcionar recomendaciones para los responsables políticos de estos países.
