IOM is committed to addressing the needs of all migrants, whether they are women, men, boys or girls. Female migrants in the region are statistically more susceptible to abuses, trafficking and labour exploitation than men, although migration also empowers women and provides them with the means to financially support their families. IOM is striving to ensure that gender issues are incorporated into all IOM projects in the region as well as taken into consideration for government policy development.
The Regional Gender Focal Point Coordinator works with the Gender Focal Points in each national office to promote gender analysis and actions. Through IOM’s innovative, gender-sensitive approaches, migration policies and programs can be powerful tools to empower migrants and promote gender equality.
